Leo Li

civil Engineer

What do skydiving, vintage NBA clothing, and a miniature longhaired dachshund have in common? Very little except they are all passions of Auckland-based civil engineer Leo Li.

Leo was born in China and moved to New Zealand at the age of 10. He grew up in Auckland, and went to Auckland Grammar, where he spent much of his time with close friends—many of whom are now in the same industry. Their drive and support played an important role in shaping his own journey.

Leo studied engineering at the University of Auckland, drawn to working to solve real-world challenges, and making a difference in people’s everyday lives.

He joined Envelope in 2025. Within his first week he could see the culture was different from previous workplaces. The emphasis on collaboration, support, and creativity made Envelope stand out.

Outside work, Leo loves to heat things up – either with trying new spicey foods, or recharging with a gym session, or game of badminton. In winter he loves to head down south to Queenstown, where skiing and skydiving are top of his list.

At home, he has a growing collection of vintage NBA clothing, and a miniature long-haired dachshund he loves taking out for walks. Wonder if they make an LA Lakers jerseys in dachshund size?
