Logan Van Gils

Civil Designer

If anyone got exasperated with how much time Logan Van Gils spent on tinkering with LEGO when he was a kid, he has had the last laugh now.

“I always loved playing with LEGO and engineering is just LEGO for big boys and girls,” he laughs.

The Auckland native joined the Envelope team in Wellington in 2022 and was immediately excited about the variety of work and the welcoming team atmosphere.

Logan grew up in Te Atatu, West Auckland. His passion when young was judo, and his family spent a lot of time travelling and competing with other similar families. While he had lots of time on the road, when he was home, Logan loved hanging out with other kids whose families lived on his street – a classic Kiwi childhood.

Good at maths and physics, he studied at Mt Albert Unitec in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland. Over the summer break, Logan worked building retaining walls to make some money. This furthered his interest in civil engineering as he loved constructing things and then pulling them apart to see how they worked (though presumably not the walls!).

He loves how the atmosphere at Envelope feels inviting, kind, and interesting with a huge variety of work. “It’s exciting to come to work and not everyone can say that.”

Outside work, Logan likes getting out and enjoying nature, whether going for a run, climbing a mountain, or relaxing on a beach.

He seems to have a good grasp on work/life balance with sleeping and eating different cuisine taking up a good portion of his time. Logan says he loves time with friends, sitting around talking about life – sharing stories, jokes, and a laugh. He loves a coffee fix, and so this LEGO-loving lad has landed on his feet in the coolest little caffeine capital, Wellington
