Tim Ced

Technician Surveyor

Tim Ced learned at a young age the value of staying curious about life. About being around good people. About the value of hard work. And about exploring what intrigues and interests you.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Tim learnt his work ethic from his close-knit family, and the value of helping others and staying curious from the surrounding community.

He remembers being fascinated by drawings, sketches and plans of houses and buildings from a young age. And feeling inspired by both local and international architects and painters.

At university, he studied for a Bachelor of Architecture, and worked part time at an architectural firm, getting hands-on experience in building technology and drafting, and learning about construction processes.

When Tim’s family moved to New Zealand, he transitioned into survey engineering, which expanded his understanding of the built environment.

He started at Envelope’s funky Auckland office in early 2026. And the emphasis on work-life balance, and an office environment which feels more like a family, felt like a great fit right away. He also enjoys the mix of site work and office time.

Exploring new places and fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking are among Tim’s favourite activities outside work. He also relaxes with movies and games – both board and online – with family.

Tim has retained his curiosity about life, and loves looking at creative spaces and interesting, innovative buildings. He has a collection of inspiring drawings and enjoys sketching.

He loves Japanese, Korean, Filipino, and Chinese food, and enjoys listening to music – especially house and electronic dance music, which he turns up to stay energized (Avicii Wake Me Up, Martin Garrix - Animal), or turns down to unwind (any Lofi Chill Beats), depending on his mood.

Getting away from the city is Tim’s favourite way to relax outside work. Peace and fresh air in the bush, and at the beach, or in the mountains like Mount Taranaki or Mount Cook are top off the list for him. He’ll always put his hand up for a new adventure. The explorer gene is strong in this one.

After all, it was the great Albert Einstein who said “we should never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born”.
