Brendan Hurring
Civil Team Lead
Brendan was born and raised in “student city” Dunedin.
He stuck with the southern city, studying surveying at Otago University, before moving to Tauranga where he gained the surveying and Land Development experience needed to become a licensed surveyor and later a Registered Professional Surveyor.
After six years in the Bay of Plenty, Brendan left for the UK for his OE. He ended up spending more than three years living in the UK and travelling, having plenty of good adventures along the way.
After returning to New Zealand and dropping back into Tauranga, Brendan continued working in Land Development with a stronger focus on the engineering side of projects. A short stint in the mines in outback Australia followed, before he returned to the homeland to take up a role in Christchurch, where he’s been raising a family and dodging hedgehogs with their dog ever since.
As a founding member of Envelope’s Christchurch office, Brendan joined the crew in late 2025 and has since taken on the role of Civil Team Lead. Despite the title, he still enjoys helping the survey team and being ‘on the tools’ while the local team continues to grow.
Apart from getting a caffeine fix, when he can tear himself away from work, Brendan likes taking advantage of the opportunities that abound in the Canterbury region. He enjoys BBQing with friends and family, biking on the roads or trails in summer, skiing in winter and - above all - walking his Lakeland Terrier, Cooper.
So there you have it, a southern man with a penchant for pizza, pooching around, and a touch of sugar in his flat white.
