George Silva

SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER

Give George Silva a Brazilian-style barbecue, a cold beer by the pool, and a house full of family, and he’s in his element.

Originally from São José dos Campos in São Paulo, George grew up surrounded by family—lots of it. With dozens of cousins and constant connection, that strong sense of community has shaped who he is today.

He once had his sights set on becoming an Air Force pilot, but when that path didn’t pan out, he pivoted—moving to New Zealand to work toward a private pilot’s licence. A job as a labourer unexpectedly sparked an interest in engineering, sending him back to Brazil to study.

Graduating in 2015, George built his career in construction and later joined a multinational stormwater company, travelling to more than 15 countries. He also completed an MBA in 2017, strengthening both his technical and business skillset. By 2018, he was back in New Zealand.

Now part of Envelope’s Mount Maunganui team as a senior civil engineer, George works across subdivision support, modelling, and design documentation. He’s big on sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and collaborating—making him a natural fit with the team.

At home, George channels that same energy into his lifestyle block, where he’s taken on everything from landscaping and building to restoring a pool and installing a sauna. The property is a true family project, complete with a growing orchard, chickens, and beekeeping—with a veggie garden next on the list.

For George, it’s not just about the end result—it’s about getting stuck in with his kids (often riding shotgun on the diggers) and creating something together.

These days, despite a life that’s taken him around the world, he’s happiest at home—hosting, relaxing, and bringing people together.

Because for George, there’s absolutely no place like home.
