Nathan Bartholomew
Senior Civil Designer
Originally from Palmerston North, Nathan moved to Wellington for study last millennium, and – apart from an OE to the UK and travel around Europe - has called the beautiful capital city home ever since.
At college, he thought being an architect was in his future, but started looking at the engineering side of things, and has never looked back. Fresh to Envelope in 2026, Nathan is involved in designing landform and infrastructure to support land development – whether it is residential, commercial or industrial. Right from the start Envelope felt different, and he recognised it was a creative and tight-knit team place to work. Nathan hopes to add his energy to that dynamic.
Outside of work, Nathan loves playing football, and watching it too. A long-time (and long-suffering!) fan of the Wellington Phoenix, he tries to fit in getting along to watch the men’s and women’s teams whenever there is a home game. Come on you Nix!
You’ll often find Nathan making the most of the outdoors, whether it’s a trail walk around Wellington with family, working on his mountain biking form, or getting out into New Zealand’s native bush, where the tranquillity and scenery are second to none.
Nathan loves street art, which Wellington fortunately “has in spades” and admits to being a bit of a craft beer nerd, which is fantastic as the Wellington region has some amazing craft breweries to sample fresh from.
Some of the most memorable places Nathan travelled to while on OE before settling back in New Zealand include Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland for its stunning landscapes, Monaco for the over-the-top wealth on display, and Venice for being simply, beautifully unique. But given the choice, he’d still rather be walking in New Zealand’s native bush — fully aware of how lucky we are to live here.
