survey team lead | SENIOR LICENSED CADASTRAL SURVEYOR

Ray’s CV reads: Schooling in Oamaru, Uni at Otago, Short stint in Wellington, Extended Sabbatical in Melbourne and Wellington Homecoming. Whilst his role at Envelope keeps him firmly grounded in the land development space, he still daydreams of one day becoming a BBQ pitmaster cooking low and slow barbeque in Central Texas.

Ray emigrated to NZ as a young boy and whilst the fondness for steamed dumplings will always remain……… he has developed a lifelong love for coffee and everything American barbeque and has embarked on an everlasting quest to master the perfect brisket.

Growing up in Oamaru with the smell of fish and chips in the air and fryer baskets and orderbooks in hand (his parents owned a small family run takeaway shop), Ray has always had a passion and knack for finding solutions to problems. To this day he is still inspired by his parent’s incredible work ethic which taught him that anything is possible with grit, determination and hard work.

Ray has been with Envelope since late 2022, working in their Wellington office. He provides strategic advice on complex land titling matters and subdivisions and technical advice for survey projects. He loves the buzz around the offices and the truly collaborative environment Envelope has to offer. He particularly enjoys the team approach and the blending of thoughts and experience, to solve the complex “puzzles” of land development.

A perfectionist at heart, Ray is forever trying to master the ultimate pour-over coffee to go with that mouth-watering brisket. He enjoys amateur carpentry, home renovations and is on a never-ending quest to try and make the perfect piece of bespoke furniture.

When he’s not with the Envelope crew Ray enjoys spending time with family and friends, who no doubt don’t mind being the MasterChef judges for some of that slow cooked American barbeque.

His favourite places in the world are an equally eclectic mix of destinations with “the sacred lands” of barbeque (that’s Tennessee and Texas to us amateurs), the hustle and bustle of Saigon, and the peace and serenity of our own Central Otago coming in tied for his affections.
